Welcome to Black Creek Country Store, over
100 years old.
Built in
1907, this white frame building with beautiful hardwood floors has been an
operating general store from 1907 to the late 1980's . Everyone (except the last
owner) has been a member of
Black Creek Baptist Church
(history), which is where the
current owners also attend. The Goodman's owned it in the 40's and the Gaulding's owned it in the 60's - 70's and both families lived upstairs - a
common practice. A movie rental and thrift shop occupied the space before the
current owners took over. When the Dawes bought the store in 1999, it took
2 1/2 years to renovate the building. “It was really rundown when we got it.
Some neighbors thought that someone ought to strike a match to it to get rid of
the eyesore,” they said but persistence and patience paid off and they opened in
September 2001, right before 911.

The Cafe' was opened March 2007, with
a very special assortment of country lunch food including the bakery talents of
a retired Thalheimers 6 layer cake maker! And that's not all - check out the
Cafe' page.
This
building splits Fox Hunter Lane and Market Road (Rt. 630) which is right off of
the east end of Cold Harbor Road. It has a large wood fenced graveled parking
lot with interesting displays of garden antiques and really old appliances plus
lots of flowers. Map to BCC Store.
Today, it is filled upstairs and down with beautiful
furniture, country style decorative items and gifts - something for everyone.

Cold Harbor road in
Mechanicsville (Hanover County, VA.) is full of history from old churches &
cemeteries to battlefield sites where the BOOM of cannon fire can be heard on a
Saturday afternoon as reenactors gather to practice a Civil War battle. The
countryside is especially lovely most anytime of year and makes for an
interesting drive where you can end up (or start the day) at Black Creek Country
Store & Café.
